Early Explorers Lesson Plan
4th
In this lesson, students will learn about the different early explorers and their routes. The teacher will begin the lesson by reading So You Want to Be an Explorer. Also, he/she will have the students complete a graphic organizer of the different character traits of the explorers and a map of the different exploration routes. Next, the teacher will play a Toontastic and have the students complete a message in a bottle story quilt based on a chosen early explorer. This lesson includes a lot of engagement and active learning.

Lesson Starter
6th
This activity is an engaging start to a geography lesson that will get the students motivated. The teacher will give each student a piece of a map, and the students will have to put their piece in the correct place to build a world map. Also, the teacher will use this as a pre assessment to inform his/her instruction of map features.

Interactive Board
4th
This activity will require students to actively engage in a bulletin board and use a QR code. The interactive bulletin board will be used as an opportunity for the students to learn about Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de Leon, Robert de La Salle, and Francis Drake. The flags have different facts that describe each of the explorers, and the student's job is to match the correct flag to the correct explorers’ ship. After the student has finished the board and checked his/her answers, the student will choose one of the QR code activities to do.

Tennessee Cyberhunt
4th
This technology integrated activity will require students to visit different websites to find information about Tennessee. The students will read each question and follow the link to find the answer.
